Stockholm, Monday

Up and at 'em at 5 a.m. Gotta love the French. Another group from the continent shared our dorm room last night and have kept me up all night with their giggling and lights etc. Then they finally shut up, got a couple hours of sleep, then took out of here before 4 a.m. with much chaos and racket. One neighbor must have been happy to have them gone for he began to snore so loudly that my ear drums rattled. So much for sleeping in this place. At least it is daylight out already so I don't feel that it is as early as it actually is.

Yesterday, Sunday, I woke up late after not getting much sleep and hurried off to the museums. I went to the modern art and architecture museums as well as to the national museum. Though not as large scale and cool as their counterparts in NYC, it was a nice day. The coolest part was that they had an exhibit of poster art from turn-of-the-century Paris at the national museum. Unfortunately, Kruger wasn't at the modern museum as far as I could tell. Though I did get to see some Wharhol and all the usual suspects. The architecture museum was small but very cool. They had models of Swedish articuture from pre-historic times to now. And they had this mountain in the middle of the room with chairs all around it. In front of the chair were goggles mounted into the surface of the mountain. They were showing all these shorts of different architects' work all around Sweden. Much of it was public spaces around parks and such. It was very interesting to see the work and to see all the lovely scenery. Though I have to admit it looks much like home here. Kind of like southeastern Ohio, rolling and hilly.

The national museum had a large display of clocks and timepieces. The rooms were dark with soft spot lighting on all these clocks, big and small. It reminded me of HP book 5 when they're sneaking around the ministry of magic. It felt so magical to be walking around in all that.

Stockholm is a lovely city and it is so easy to get around here by foot. Once you get used to the long, long street names that aren't intuitive at all it gets much better. I think we've been to and all around the major islands now. My poor feet are bruised and so sore to the touch from walking so much. But it has been worth it. The city is really clean as well. No big surprise I suppose, but it is striking just how clean it is for a major city.

Oh, I'm beginning to get pretty sleepy and I still need to stay up to go to the train station soon.

I suppose the next time I post it will be from Jönköping.
