yoga

This week I've been trying diligently to practice yoga everyday and I believe I have everyday this week. Of course, the real test will come when school starts back with my 18 hours of classes and 20 hours of assistantship work! Practicing everyday is easy enough during lazy summer hours. But will I keep up my devotion when The Schedule begins:)

As I practice everyday and become more mindful of my body and its little changes and resistances I wonder what they all mean. And I wonder if there's some yogi(ni)s out there who know what such things mean. I want to know, for example, why I have such tightness in my left hip. My teacher says because it is tight. But I want to know why it is that it has hardly any more flexibility than nearly 3 years ago when I first started my yoga practice. Is there some psycho-chakra block that is manifesting in my left hip? Who knows?

Probably has something to do with the fact that I'm still in school when I really want to start my career as a alternative healer. But I guess it won't hurt to get my training in traditional ways of development and research as I explore this other side. And perhaps I can be one of the growing number who combine them. It would all be easier, however, if I were an M.D.

As you may have noticed I'm done commenting on current events for a while. I just get too bummed out with it all to talk about it. I'd rather be a part of the solution to the world's ills than to just add to the chatter, chatter, to the sound and fury.

Nice post, Brandy! I love the way yoga makes me feel. I definitely feel more comfortable in my skin when I do it regularly.

I have a friend who has been teaching me yoga. She taught it in India for 9 years before she moved here. She's very knowledgeable, and I really like that her focus with yoga is not the American-style "lose weight! get in shape!" thing, but more of a complete mind-body practice. You might know who she is already--she was in our department--but I don't want to disturb her privacy by posting her name or info on a blog. Let me know and I'll put you in touch with her.
